The novel coronavirus, technical name COVID-19, has quickly spread worldwide since it was initially detected in late 2019. COVID-19 is an upper respiratory infection, with over 86,000 cases reported in Massachusetts as of May 2020. Because the virus was previously unknown until several months ago, much information is still unknown about it including long-term effects and vaccination. AFC Urgent Care Marlborough is now performing diagnostic testing for COVID-19 at our center by appointment only, after a telemedicine visit.
Symptoms of COVID-19
COVID-19 symptoms may vary by case, or may even not appear at all. Many patients who have tested positive for the virus have been asymptomatic, but are equally contagious. Symptoms of COVID-19 include:
- Dry cough
- Sore throat
- Shortness of breath
- Recent loss of smell and/or taste
Symptoms develop between two and fourteen days after initial exposure. The virus is transmitted through direct contact with infected surfaces or people as well as through community spread, which means that you are unsure when you came into contact with the virus.
AFC Urgent Care Marlborough is able to perform COVID-19 diagnostic testing on patients after a telemedicine screening to go over your symptoms. If your symptoms meet our criteria, we will ask you to come to our center for drive-up COVID-19 testing. A member of our staff will come to your vehicle after you call to perform the nasal swab, which is pain-free. Test results are available within several days.
